Afluento is a speaking app for European Portuguese, run by Nikita Bobrovskiy. This page explains what Afluento collects, why it is used, who receives it, and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, email support@afluento.com.
The short version: Afluento stores your account, practice history as text, progress, and settings. It does not save your microphone recordings in its database or file storage. We do not sell your data or show ads.
What we collect
- Your account. You sign in with Google or with an email link. We store your email address and basic profile details. We never see your Google password. Google sign-in only shares your basic identity (the openid, email, and profile scopes).
- Your microphone audio. When you answer out loud, Afluento's server sends that audio to OpenAI to turn it into text. During repetition practice, OpenAI also receives your recording and the approved sample so it can compare them. Afluento processes these recordings in memory and does not write them to its database or file storage.
- Your practice as text. We keep the text heard from your answer, the score, feedback, corrected sentence, and phrases to review. For repetition practice, we keep the text heard, whether it passed, the reason for a retry, and any supported word note.
- Your progress. We keep which scenes you finished, when a phrase is due for review, and how you did last time.
- Your settings. Things like your theme, language, and other preferences.
- Extra tools, if enabled for your account. Some older accounts may have tasks, contacts, or a connected calendar. If you use them, Afluento stores what you add and the details needed to provide the tool. Connection keys are stored encrypted.
- Payments, if you buy a plan. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your full card number. We store your plan and its status.
How we use your data
We use your data to sign you in, check your answers, save your progress, choose what to show next, provide billing and any extra tools you use, fix problems, and keep accounts safe.
Afluento also records controlled usage events. These include landing and fit-funnel actions, scene starts, whether speech started, time to first speech, answer and correction steps, repetition results, and scene completion. A learning event may include the scene ID and slug, level, source, score, and whether the scene was seen before. It does not include microphone audio, a transcript, or the words you said.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not show ads.
Why we can use it
We process account, practice, progress, settings, and billing data because it is needed to provide the service you ask for. We use limited analytics, security, and diagnostic data for our legitimate interest in understanding, protecting, and improving Afluento. We process optional connected-tool data when you ask us to provide that tool. We may also process limited records when the law requires it.
Who can see your practice
Access is limited to you, Afluento operators who need it to run the service, and an active tutor linked to your account. A linked tutor can see your practice text, scores, feedback, and progress. They cannot retrieve microphone recordings from Afluento because Afluento does not store them.
Who processes data for us
These companies receive the data needed for their part of the service:
- Supabase — sign-in, database, and file storage
- OpenAI — speech-to-text, answer and pronunciation checks, and generated audio
- Google — Google sign-in and a connected Google Calendar, if you choose either one
- Stripe — payments
- Vercel — hosts the website
- Hetzner — hosts our server
Afluento does not save microphone recordings, but OpenAI receives them for processing. OpenAI states that its audio-transcription endpoint has no application-state or abuse-monitoring retention. The pronunciation comparison uses a different API endpoint whose abuse-monitoring logs may keep customer content for up to 30 days by default. Afluento disables application storage for that request. Read OpenAI's current data controls.
These providers may process data outside the European Economic Area under their own legal safeguards. Contact us if you want more detail about a provider or transfer.
Cookies and browser storage
Afluento uses cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, remember your theme and language, and hold a random analytics session ID for the current browser tab. There are no advertising cookies.
How long we keep data
Afluento does not store your microphone recordings. Account, practice, progress, settings, and billing-state records are kept while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete the account data Afluento controls unless a limited record must be kept by law. Email support@afluento.com.
Your rights
EU and Portuguese data protection law gives you rights over your personal data. Depending on the case, you can ask us to:
- show you the data we have about you (access),
- fix data that is wrong (correction),
- send you a copy of your data (export),
- delete data, restrict its use, or object to its use.
To use any of these rights, email support@afluento.com.
You can also complain to Portugal's data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados.
